Research
A significant amount of research activity is conducted by the teaching staff at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
While the thoracic surgery residents do not play a role in the laboratory based research projects themselves, the existence of such ongoing
scientific study creates an enriching environment for learning. The residents are expected to complete a clinical research project during their
residency. They are also given the opportunity to attend a major national surgical meeting each year.
Other research administered by the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School takes place at the Robert Wood Johnson University
Hospital's Clinical Research Center. The $4.5 million, 13,000 square foot Center is a valuable resource for directing high-quality clinical
trials of new drugs, therapies, and biomedical devices.
In addition to the work carried out at Robert Wood Johnson, Deborah Heart and Lung Center sponsors major research. Since 1980,
the Deborah Research Institute has been making important contributions to the medical and surgical treatment of heart and lung diseases through
ongoing clinical research.
