PROSTATE DISEASE / MALE WELLNESS CENTER

The prostate gland is located directly below the bladder and completely surrounds the urethra, the tube which carries urine out of the bladder. In health, the prostate secretes a substance that helps thin and liquefy the seminal fluid. After the age of 50 or so, the prostate gland may begin to enlarge, a condition known as BPH. As the prostate enlarges, it may constrict the urethra, causing difficulty starting urination, resulting in a weak stream, creating a sense of incomplete emptying, and result in frequent urination during the day and night. First, our doctors will make sure that your symptoms are not due to prostate cancer, since the symptoms of BPH and cancer may be similar. Our doctors will then help you choose the best treatment available. Dr. Weiss and Dr. Perrotti are co-investigators in the development of new strategies for treating BPH. For the majority of patients, the treatment is medical. For those patients who require surgery, our doctors offer Laser Prostatectomy, Thermal Prostatectomy, Prostate Stents, and traditional Transurethral Resection of the Prostate, all through fiberoptic scopes and no incision is necessary. Some men will have voiding problems for reasons other than BPH or cancer, and our doctors take time talking with you and use the latest diagnostic technology including videourodynamics when necessary to make the correct diagnosis. Our doctors also treat prostate infections and prostatitis.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION, or IMPOTENCE

The inability to achieve or to maintain an erection. This common condition affects nearly 30 million American men and we have learned that for the majority of men, impotence is treatable. At our male wellness center, a complete history will be obtained with regard to medical history, medications and prior surgery. After thorough physical examination additional diagnostic tests are performed as needed to determine the best therapy for you. Treatment is state-of-the-art and includes the latest available therapies. The majority of men are able to find a non-surgical approach that is right for them and their partner. We now have video information which many men find helpful.

INFERTILITY

Through understanding of the anatomy, physiology and biochemistry of male reproduction, our Doctors are able to provide effective evaluation and therapy for infertility. The foundation of evaluation and treatment of the infertile male at the MALE WELLNESS CENTER is a complete history and physical examination. Some additional testing is often necessary, but this is performed in a sensitive, expedient manner. Our Doctors will spend time with you and your partner, and collaborating physicians, to foster a team approach to your problem. Sexual & genetic counseling and evaluation of your partner is available, as indicated.
