PGY 4 -- Urology 2
The PGY 4 resident spends 6 months on research and 6 months on the combined
pediatric and female urology service. There is a wealth of opportunity for research and all
residents are expected to present their observations at an appropriate national meeting.
Research opportunities include urology division investigators, investigators at
The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, investigators
at the Center for Applied Biotechnology and Medicine a combined research institute shared by the
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and
Rutgers University,
The New Jersey Child Health Institute,
and soon the New Jersey Stem Cell Research Institute to name a few. During the research rotation
the resident has a very modest requirement for clinical activity. The remaining 6 months are spent
on the pediatric/female urology service. During this time the resident receives an intense exposure
to lower urinary tract function and dysfunction in both the adult and pediatric population.
Dr. Joseph Barone is head of the section of Pediatric Urology. Together, they provide the resident a
rich experience in complex and simple urodynamics, female pelvic floor reconstruction procedures,
and male and female urinary incontinence. The resident will participate in both the outpatient workup
and intraoperative procedures for all patients on the service.
