Operative Experience Data
The Residency Review Committee
analyzes resident operative data each year and provides
the program with what is called a "Defined Category
Report." Basically this is a snapshot of the program’s
being able to meet defined minimum numbers of cases in
each of the primary and secondary areas of importance.
We are proud to reproduce the most recent report on the
graduating chief residents from the summer of 2008,
noting that we most often double or triple the minimum
number of cases.
Detailed Operative Data
In addition one can see where we
stand in our relative cases reproduced here with
percentile rankings. Extensive detail is also provided
us showing that for example we are at the 12th
percentile for liver resections and the 77th
percentile for Whipple procedures due to our vigorously
growing Cancer Center and its Division of Surgical
Oncology, as well as being at the 93rd
percentile for endocrine surgery. Our only shortcoming
is operative trauma, and while it may then be a lot
safer here going out to your car each evening, this is
not where you want to train to gain operative trauma
credentials. We do however have a record of placement of
our graduates at some of the top trauma and surgical
critical care programs in the country.
