The Section faculty oversee a major
referral practice for surgery on lung and esophageal
cancers, providing a standard of care and research efforts
that can only be provided at a robust academic medical
center and tertiary care hospital.
Our large volume thoracic surgery
practice integrates specialized respiratory, pulmonary,
nursing, and perioperative pain management services into a
sophisticated, multidisciplinary, academic thoracic surgery
before, during, and after surgery.
Our research programs are supported by a
variety of NIH, Society, and Foundation-supported awards,
and has produced a variety peer-reviewed manuscripts,
abstracts, and presentations in collaboration with
investigators at the University and the Cancer Institute of
New Jersey.
Operative and inpatient care is provided
at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, a flagship
hospital of New Jersey's only National Cancer Institute
(NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Only 39
academic and research institutions throughout the United
States hold this coveted designation for dedication to the
advancement of cancer research to ultimately reduce cancer
incidence, cancer complications, and death from cancer. In
addition, RWJUH has New Jersey's only NCI-designated
Comprehensive Cancer Program by the American College of
Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
